Roconstructive and Otolaryngologic Surgery

In eardrum-ossicular reconstructive surgery and reconstructive surgery of the nasal septum, it is possible to use homologous costal cartilage. The higher availability, the safety and the handiness of the costal cartilage make its use very frequent, as it also gives significant advantages in terms of surgery time and occurrence of morbidities.
In eardrum reconstructive surgery and ossicular surgery, it is usually required a homologous cartilage graft as it is not possible to reshape the little bones of the patient. Costal cartilage is sterile processed to obtain small grafts suitable for microsurgical implants.
Reconstructions of the nasal septum and pyramid are carried out on patients who suffered from neoplasty, traumas, abscesses, congenital deformities or several rihnoseptoplasties. These surgeries generally require at least 3cm long and 1cm wide cartilaginous grafts. As for tendons or bone tissue, cartilage processed correctly, has a very little chance of rejection, and maintains its structural and elastic properties.
